Sound the flute!

Now it’s mute.

Birds delight

Day and Night;

Nightingale

In the dale,

Lark in Sky,

Merrily,

Merrily, merrily, to welcome in the Year.

Little Boy,

Full of joy;

Little Girl,

Sweet and small;

Cock does crow,

So do you;

Merry voice,

Infant noise,

Merrily, merrily, to welcome in the Year.

Little Lamb,

Here I am;

Come and lick

My white neck;

Let me pull

Your soft Wool;

Let me kiss your soft face;

Merrily, merrily, welcome in the Year.

Ah! Sunflower

Ah, Sunflower! weary of time,

Who countest the steps of the Sun,

Seeking after that sweet golden clime

Where the traveller’s journey is done:

Where the Youth pined away with desire,

And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow

Arise from their graves, and aspire

Where my Sunflower wishes to go.

Words by William Blake
