As we rested with feet in the pond, Steve kept trying to identify the fish swimming in the shallows so that we could return with the proper lures. We had not come prepared to fish, only to scout a new possible location. I snapped a few fishy photos for him but then I got distracted by sunlight on water and other creatures by the shore.
You can read more about Spot Pond and other features of the Middlesex Fells here. I’m not sure if he and I will return to fish. You see, he actually likes to catch fish. I am more into the zen of fishing. We’ll see … 😉

… found, one Saturday morning, on the church steps. I wrote about him once.
Over time, and with the aid of little hands and big windy storms, the little fellow’s body has deteriorated quite a bit, but the wings are still intact …
… and quite beautiful.

Such beauty to be found in a Brooklyn backyard. This stunning photo by guest contributor, Lorraine.
I have written often of family on this blog and how family, past and present, influence and inspire me. Well, in this present, there are few people who inspire my photography more than my cousin with her eye for the subtle beauty to be found in a small urban space. I am thankful she has allowed me to post some of her photos on this site over the years. See for yourself …

… I found a dead dragonfly. So perfect in form was he that I thought he was a toy. However everyone quickly confirmed that he was real. And so in a box I took him home and placed him in the sun where I then photographed him on different papers.
My favorite moment? His wings iridescent in the light and beneath on white paper their dark shadow. A beautiful study in contrasts.

I have to admit that before I picked up a camera, I did not fully appreciate the beauty of a fly and many other small creatures.
