On a gray, wet day, I chose to shoot the primrose leaf in black and white.  Its veins remind me of trees and rivers, all branching.  I’ve never grown primrose before. Its leaves are doing well, quite well, but no new blooms. We’ll see …

A friend passed this leaf and its mate on the sidewalk.  Struck by their beauty, she paused, picked them up and asked herself, “What can I do with these? I know! I’ll give them to Cynthia to photograph.”  How humbling is that? 😉

I can’t yet see the words but I feel them, somewhere, somehow, embodied in this apple with its lovely leaf.  Yes, a weight of hidden words.  I hope to find them before the month’s end, to glimpse their fragile figures before they disappear into the ether.  Or at least before the apple disappears inside me.

I do wonder if people think I’m crazy as I walk through downtown Boston and other city centers picking up leaves and sticking them in any available pocket.

I keep thinking I should plan a specific leaf-picking adventure with a proper bucket or plastic bag as container.  But somehow it is more fun to be walking along to work or to shop and to be open to the possibility of finding … something … along the way.

Of course it is easy to behave that way when the sun is shining and autumn leaves glow like jewels falling from the sky.

I’ll be curious what’s to be found on the ground this day.  Hope your day goes well wherever you are in the world. 😉
