The morning began as planned.  I warmed a cup of coffee.  I sat down at my desk ready to tackle the writing projects that I knew would keep me at the computer most of the day.  I just happened to look over my shoulder out the window.  Just to pause, ever so briefly, in appreciation of the morning sun.

I did not expect to see sunlight playing upon the surface of a CD.  Nor did I expect to see bright colors bouncing around the wall amidst an array of silhouettes, shadows and reflections.  But I’m glad I did.

So began one of the most unexpected photography shoots I have experienced in a long time. 😉

I’ve been thinking of late, that one day as a parting gift for my landlord, I will have to compile all of the pictures I have taken of sunlight shining through his windows.  Meanwhile, here are a few taken this morning. 😉

Imagine if Van Gogh had experienced light pollution comparable to what is experienced in many urban cities today.  Most likely, he would never have painted Starry Starry Night. Mention “Milky Way” to a teenager living in New York City or Los Angeles.  Given the young people I’ve spoken with, they know the candy bar and they remember the term from science class.  But they really have had no experience of looking up into black velvet night and seeing the milky sweep of the galaxy that is ours.  So many of us write about inspiration, but what source of inspiration has been lost as we have, often by necessity, dimmed the heavenly lights so that we may brighten the light upon land?

Long ago, I found two white feathers in the deep dark woods beneath a towering tree.  At least that’s the story I told a little girl in need of a fairy tale.  In fact, I found these lovely wisps in an art store.  I tucked them into a blue vase.  Awaiting inspiration, I guess.  Well, this Sunday, inspiration flooded through the windows as sunlight … as always, illuminating life’s simple beauty.
