Actually it is not so much that the roots are submerged as they have emerged. After a certain person picked basil leaves to make some pesto, I took the mostly bare stems and placed them in water next to a window. There were just enough leaves left to absorb the light and spark some root growth.

for the sake of the radish

I keep telling friends it was the radish that took me out. Not a slippery floor or a missed stair. I pulled a muscle in my back because I was trying to get the perfect shot of these roots on my radish seeds. I’ll never look at the radish the same way again. Have a good Friday, folks. 😉
the lone petunia

Back in October I wrote about the unexpected success in growing a potted petunia in the house. I imagined photographing white blossoms against the kitchen window with snow falling in the background. Will that come to pass? Well, recently after cutting away all the dead and dying pieces only one green stem remained on the petunia plant. Nothing else. I considered letting it go, but what harm was there in continuing to water that stem. And then one day it bloomed. A single bloom on a single stem on a mostly barren patch of ground. I guess there must be some good roots beneath that soil.
