I’ve been juggling a lot lately but I want to get back into the swing of things as we move forward into the holiday season. Spent a little time today cleaning up my camera, organizing photos and updating images in one of my favorite online shops.
I love the quality of Redbubble’s production of a seemingly ever-expanding range of merchandise. My current personal favorites are the stationery, the acrylic blocks and the spiral notebooks.
Fall is here and there is much beauty to be found in the fleeting light. As I carry my camera into the world (hint, hint … several trips coming up!) I hope to capture images that I can share via this blog and in this online shop. Be sure to check it out on occasion. 🙂

Actually it is not so much that the roots are submerged as they have emerged. After a certain person picked basil leaves to make some pesto, I took the mostly bare stems and placed them in water next to a window. There were just enough leaves left to absorb the light and spark some root growth.

Virginia is not known as Big Sky country but it sure seemed that way to me and my younger brother Keith as we played in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Those experiences beneath the heavens shaped our future selves. Though I moved far away to another beautiful landscape, he often called to describe the beauty of the Virginia sky. He shared this picture with me nearly nine-years ago out of the blue reminding me of where I’d grown up. The Bowdoin Murals are found in the rotunda of the Walker Art Building at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. The four murals in the building represent Athens, Florence, Rome and Venice, honoring cities that had profoundly affected western art. Each of the four artists chosen to paint the murals were considered masters of figure painting. One of those artists was John La Farge. Among his fellow artists, which included Elihu Vedder, John Thayer and Kenyon Cox, La Farge was considered the elder statesman or senior artist.
La Farge chose as his subject Athens and the goddess Athena. Each of the murals features a central female form. In La Farge’s case his mural’s central subject is not Athena, but a nymph being painted by the goddess herself in a sacred grove.
Due to be completed in spring 1894 just before the building’s dedication, La Farge’s mural was not actually installed until 1898.
