I was quite focused this morning. Honest. I had my task list all prepared. Then the sun came out from behind her clouds, shining seductively warm light all around. What a problem to have on a Monday morning. And my response?
Well, but of course, I tossed aside pen and paper. I grabbed my camera and raced around the house to every window following that darn light until I settled upon the top most floor where from the ceiling hangs a butterfly mobile. A rainbow of winged creatures just waiting for the wind.
No windows were open (it was raining earlier), but perhaps from the wind I generated moving about so fast, the butterflies had begun to spin just a bit. And so I sat on the floor and photographed them in their habitat.
Not too long of a photoshoot. Just long enough to make one smile. Like I said … what a wonderful problem to have on a Monday morning.

I have a friend named Tara who loves all things sparkly. Sometimes she leaves her sparkles behind. On occasion I pick them up, like shells off the beach, to photograph in sunshine. In this case, the light was dappled as it shone through herbs on the kitchen table.

As soon as we returned home from the beach, the rains began but the sun was still shining so bright. It made each drop sparkle like the proverbial diamond. With no expectation of outcomes, it was fun to lean out the window and photograph the falling water.

As we rested with feet in the pond, Steve kept trying to identify the fish swimming in the shallows so that we could return with the proper lures. We had not come prepared to fish, only to scout a new possible location. I snapped a few fishy photos for him but then I got distracted by sunlight on water and other creatures by the shore.
You can read more about Spot Pond and other features of the Middlesex Fells here. I’m not sure if he and I will return to fish. You see, he actually likes to catch fish. I am more into the zen of fishing. We’ll see … 😉

In the heart of the city, adults don’t tend to say anything. They’ll pass me by and pretend not to notice me as I lean precariously over fences into private property or kneel at the base of trees.
It is the children who ask, even as their parents are sometimes trying to shush them, “What are you doing, lady?”
When I tell them that I am photographing sunlight, they ask, “Well, how do you do that?” And I say with great drama, “Well, the way I choose to photograph sunlight is as it pours over the branches of the trees and creates shadows on the ground.”
The older kids raise eyebrows in disbelief but the younger children, they sometimes nod with great understanding.

Got home late yesterday so decided to fix a simple dinner. Here are a few of the ingredients basking in sunlight.
My Late Light Dinner Menu
* day-old bread, slice, drizzle with olive oil, toast and then rub with garlic
*fresh broccoli, slice, toss into oiled frying pan with chopped oyster mushrooms, scallions and more garlic
* add bit of chicken broth, salt and pepper. cover. turn down flame.
*sit down. take a breather before standing to peer in refrigerator — I found last pieces of smoked salmon.
*find a big plate. pile on flavored veggies, a few slices of bread, and the salmon.
*retire to big comfy chair in the living room. hope you didn’t forget fork else you’ll have to get up again!
