One of my favorite exhibits at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston is the Endless Repeating Twentieth Century Modernism by Josiah McElheny. It was installed in 2007. Over the years, I’ve paused, stared, pondered, reflected before racing on to view whatever show or exhibit I was actually at the museum to see. Oh, how I have admired the beauty, but only recently have I taken the time to photograph what was before me and to learn more about the artist’s intent, as well as about his creative journey. As I learn more, mostly what I am fascinated by is how he uses glassmaking as a storytelling tool.

Via the following PBS link you can read more about McElheny and see a short video of him at work. http://www.pbs.org/art21/artists/josiah-mcelheny

Some of the bulbs still thrive in the hallway but one had faded away and so I took its drying blossoms and placed them in a bowl and tucked them in the fridge. This morning, as with the rose, I photographed the results. This morning’s light was less intense then on the day I shot the rose but it was bright enough.

… they grow in their small vessels upon a short bookcase that’s filled with cookbooks and related food literature. It has been a joy to try photographing their leaves, from different angles, in this morning’s bright winter’s light.

A box of Kleenex, on a desk, catching this morning’s light. Photograph a white tissue? Well, why not? 😉

But then I did wonder, what if I changed the setting on my camera to cyanotype? How would the red paper appear to me then? Simply blue, in part. But I was also reminded of blue lakes and shadowed valleys, smoky mountains, and smoky lounges where women sang the blues.

Dispersion. The separation of visible light into different colors. This is simply sunlight shining through a glass of sparkling water. What a wonderful world. 😉
